I was born in Birmingham, the second city of the United Kingdom in 1949.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Land Administration which I took at Portsmouth Polytechnic in Hampshire, England. I worked for the UK government as a Valuation expert for just short of 20 years. My qualifications included being an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, later becoming a Fellow of the same Institution. I left the Valuation Office, my government employer, in 1995.
I took a postgraduate teaching qualification and became a nationally registered/certified teacher in 1998. In 2001, I came to teach in the USA, as a 4th grade teacher in Cleveland County, NC. where I taught for 2 years. During that time I met my wife Barbara, who was a teacher in Mooresville. I moved to Mount Mourne Elementary School where I taught 3rd grade children. In 2009, I joined the faculty of Mount Mourne I.B. School and taught Math and Humanities to
6th and 7th grade students. I retired from teaching in 2014 at the age of 65.
I have 3 grown children still living in the United Kingdom whom I have visited regularly and vice versa, they regularly come to the US to visit me.
Attended St. Mary's Church in Shelby for 1 year upon my arrival in the US;
Started attending St Therese when I moved up to Mooresville in 2002 where I have been a lector for about 10 years.
Over the years I have been involved with a good many voluntary organizations, including these:
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a voluntary organization based around the coast of the British Isles, dedicated to saving lives at sea; Wiveliscombe Rotary Club; mission trips to Romania; initially a member and later the Chairman of my local Primary School Board of Governors; Guardian Ad Litem in the County of Iredell; G.A.L. volunteers' instructor; mentor at Special Treasures (Statesville) for teens in foster care: volunteered weekly at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen: Davidson Rotary Club: Mission trip to Alto Cayma in Peru, funding two children through parts of their schooling:
My wife is an ardent member of Davidson United Methodist Church.
I feel that I still have time and energy to be more actively involved with the community of St. Therese and more generally Iredell. I am looking forward to spending time within the Parish of St. Therese, offering such service as I can. I look forward to working with parishioners on the Pastoral Council and becoming further involved with the parish.
Peter is the Pastoral Council contact to the Buildings and Facilities Commission.
