New Vigil Lamps: Since the early centuries of the Church, candles have been used in prayer and worship. At the core of a reflection on candles is the reminder that Jesus is the true light of the world and those who follow Him will not walk in darkness (Jn.8:12). The Paschal Candle represents our Lord's victory, His Resurrection. At every Mass at least two candles are placed on or near the altar.
Candles may be used in prayer vigils and have been placed at shrines and at the tombs of saints. Vigil candles have long been a part of votive offerings as an expression of piety and devotion with a particular intention in mind such as the eternal peace of someone who has died or the recovery of a loved one.
The traditional devotion continues with our new system of electronic vigil lamps. You may light a lamp by pushing a red button and express your intention in prayer. You may place your votive offerings in the offertory box. The new vigil lamps are low maintenance, safer, clean and very low voltage. They should serve us for many years to come.
Together, we trust in the mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and in the intercession and love of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Our Lady of Grace, pray for us Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us
Fr. Mark
We also have new vigil lamps in the St. Ignatius Day Chapel! All were purchased from a restricted donation given in 2017. We are asking for a $2 donation per candle. We have not yet determined where the current stands will be relocated.
