Part of the mission trip to Malawi is allowing the St. Therese group to deliver handmade Rosaries by St. Therese parishioners to the locals. Over the weekend, the group attended Mass in Kalembe, Africa, and distributed Rosaries.
In her latest report for this mission blog, Mollie Anderson, the St. Therese group leader, says the distribution of Rosaries and prayer with the locals are all pieces of the group's spiritual goal.
"Our day started off with a beautiful 3-hour mass. Rosary prior to mass in the native language of Chichewa. So much beautiful singing! There were three out station churches in attendance today. There is a total of 51 small Christian community churches in this parish. The amount each community donated is read off at the end. encourages greater accountability. After the offering a long procession occurred for the gifts. Lots of singing! And the gifts.... bread, eggs, bottled water, and a chicken-- who ended up on the grill for the picnic," Anderson says.
Anderson added, "God is here. Poverty is rough. But we are here to witness. We are not here to do it FOR them. Without a doubt, this is a journey. The question is, "Why does God want us to experience this?". We are still praying for guidance on that, but I am confident the answer will come to us. This trip has been a lesson in patience, even today that lol lesson continued to be top of mind. Please continue to pray for us and more importantly for those we meet."
The St. Therese mission group met with the local parishioners after Mass on Sunday to distribute Rosaries made by St. Therese parishioners.
Anderson says the group were spiritually filled by events after Mass, as they delivered the Rosaries to the African parishioners.
"After a beautiful 3.5-hour Sunday Mass filled with singing and dancing, we celebrated being together by sharing a picnic in the garden of the rectory with the parish staff, liturgical dancers, altar boys and their families. The students shared performances of dancing, skits, singing, and poetry to welcome us to Kalembe," she says.
Anderson added, "We were so grateful for the kindness they showed us, and we were able to give them the beautiful rosaries made by the faith formation group! Having rosaries made for them by the students of St. Therese meant so much to them."
