Thank you for the generous donations to Food for Days/Community Ministries!
From the Food for Days website:
"Students in need are identified by school counselors and teachers. After a hungry child is identified, they receive a permission slip, which needs to be signed by a parent, indicating that they can receive weekend meals. We send every child home with a backpack filled with two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners, as well as drinks and snacks, so they come back to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn! We pack our weekend meal bags at packing sites beforehand in generic packaging and deliver them to schools on Thursday, so they can be discreetly handed out and taken home on Friday afternoon."

What is the Backpack Ministry?
The Backpack Ministry serves the students and families of Third Creek Elementary School in Iredell County where 90-95 percent of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches. This school year we fed 35 Third Creek students and 10 from Cloverleaf Elementary. This began as a project for West United Methodist Church and the Prayerful Servants CLC (Christian Life Community), but the need has grown. Now this ministry has become a part of our parish Food Ministries program.
Our goal is to have supplementary food every other week for every student who expresses a need. In communicating with the school counselor, she has told me that their “kids truly enjoy and look forward to getting support, many of them take this responsibility VERY seriously and consider this their way of helping out their family.”
Our costs are approximately $10 per bag. With the growing needs and the expansion of the ministry, we are in need of donations. If you would like to help support the backpack ministry, there will be envelopes marked "Backpack" in the St. Ignatius Day Chapel and the Church Narthex. Please use these for your donations of cash, checks (made out to St.Therese with "Backpack" in the memo), or gift cards to Walmart or Aldi's. Please place the envelopes in the regular collections.
Anticipating your generosity, thank you for helping feed these families!
If you would like more information, please send an email to meader3@gmail.com.
We no longer have a food pantry at St. Therese, but are supporting two backpack ministries that serve local school children. We will be requesting food for the Backpack Ministry and Food for Days as needed. If you need assistance, please visit the Christian Mission or FeedNC.
