Each year as we observe Lent, we are invited to step aside from our usual patterns and enter into a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These are not three separate practices. Rather, when practiced together, they lead us more deeply into the following of Christ.
Your Peace and Justice Ministry is asking parishioners to participate during Lent in giving to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) through Operation Rice Bowl. Cardboard Rice Bowls will be available at the church exits as well as through Faith Formation, beginning Ash Wednesday until the end of Lent. Each Rice Bowl is a tool for families to collect their Lenten alms and comes with a Lenten calendar plus a daily reflection. Also included are recipes for meatless meals from around the world and Stories of Hope from families that will benefit from your donation.
We ask you to please take one CRS Rice Bowl per family, encourage you to place the cardboard bowl somewhere prominent in your household, and together read the daily reflection. We ask that you bring them back on Palm Sunday with your contribution (cash or check ONLY, NO COINS will be accepted).
Pick up your Rice Bowl this weekend!
Your Peace & Justice Ministry hopes you are joining our faith community – and more than 12,000 Catholic communities across the U.S. – in a life-changing Lenten journey with the CRS Rice Bowls - praying, fasting, and giving alms for those in need around the world and our communities. May your prayers be a reflection of humble and grateful hearts, your fasting a hunger for justice, and your alms an offering of peace.
